As a business writer, I am always looking for blogging tools to improve the process and the product.  I love anything that makes my work faster or easier, or helps me create truly great, SEO-friendly posts.  And, like everyone I know, I really love helpful things that are free!

Here are 6 free blogging tools that I am currently hooked on:

1. HubSpot’s Blog Ideas Generator 

Every blogger sometimes thinks, “I don’t know what to write about.” The Idea Generator will definitely get you past your writer’s block.  Just fill in the empty fields with 3 basic terms that you could (maybe, possibly, perhaps) turn into a post.  Click “give me blog ideas” and in a few seconds, up pops a whole week’s worth of relevant blog post titles!

2. WordStream’s Free Keyword Tool

This is one of the blogging tools I go to most frequently.   It makes it fast and easy for you to do keyword research before you start writing.  All you have to do is enter a keyword or website URL to get hundreds of relevant keyword results, tailored by industry and country.  I use this to find the best keywords and keyword phrases (long-term keywords) to make my posts SEO-friendly.

3. The ResizeImage.net Online Image Re-sizer

I think this is one of the best (and most user-friendly) image re-sizers on the Web.  It lets you crop and re-size any image to the exact pixels or proportion you want.  And you can reduce the file size significantly without losing quality.  This tool makes it super easy to add high quality, shareable images to your posts.

4. Pixabay

The Pixabay site has over 1.1 million images and videos available for download.  I know there are countless “free image” sites online but I find Pixabay the best.  The image quality is great and everything is available in multiple sizes, so I usually don’t have to re-size after I download.  And while there are sponsored (pay for them) images featured on their site, Pixabay separates them from the free options, so I am not constantly frustrated by searches that lead straight to paid sites.

5. ClicktoTweet

This is my new favourite thing!  First, I make sure there are a couple of quotes, statistics, or statements in my blog post that are Tweet-Worthy.  I enter each passage, one at a time, into the message box on Click to Tweet, hit “generate new link”, and voila! I have ready-made tweets inside my post, increasing the chances of readers sharing my content.

And speaking of sharing…

6. Bitlinks by Bitly

Before sharing a completed post via social media, I run the url through Bitlinks. It only takes a few seconds to generate a shortened url.  This is very helpful, especially on Twitter, because it lets me use more characters for my messaging.

Conclusion

Your company blog is an incredibly powerful content marketing platform.  The challenge is to consistently write SEO content that really connects with your ideal audience.  The more tools you have in your blogging arsenal the better!
